Addendum: finely minced words.

Since I don’t usually use the word “gadfly,” I decided to look it up:

gad·fly

[gad-flahy] Show IPA
noun, plural -flies.
1.
any of various flies, as a stable fly or warble fly, that bite or annoy domestic animals.
2.
a person who persistently annoys or provokes others with criticism, schemes, ideas, demands, requests, etc.

Ah well, this is probably truer to my social persona than "butterfly". I guess I'm a social warble fly!
